Why Choose a Wood Burning Stove

With the advent of global warming and the rapid increases in domestic energy bills from the use of oil and gas, many households are turning to alternative forms of heating. Most people are aware of the need to conserve energy and the use of a stove to heat a single room or an entire house has clear advantages over the alternatives.

An open fire can cause as much as to 70% of the heat generated to escape through your chimney. Compare this with Blacksmith Stoves which burn at up to 80% efficiency. This results in less than 20% of your heat escaping, thereby reducing both your fuel costs and harmful carbon emissions.

There are some distinct advantages to using Stoves over other forms of heating:

  1. The ambiance of sitting before a roaring fire – the scent of burning wood or the flicker of dancing flames.
  2. For those currently relying on gas or oil-fired boilers stoves can represent a substantial savings in running costs.
  3. Non-boiler stoves are a very efficient method of achieving localised heating.
  4. Boiler model stoves can heat a whole house or can be used to supplement oil or gas central heating, giving the benefits of a cosy fire in the living room, ample hot water and distributed heat throughout your home.
  5. Multi-fuel stoves are smaller than fireplaces – they fit in just about any location in a home as long as there is a way to properly install the stove’s own chimney system.Stoves can also add great architectural features to a home.
  6. The range of sizes and colours is extensive.
  7. They leave a smaller carbon footprint than Oil or Gas and are up to 3 times more efficient than an open fire.
  8. They are cleaner, more controllable and more convenient.
  9. No electricity required for the non-boiler stoves.

Why Choose A Blacksmith Stoves?

There are many different types of stoves on the market. It is important to ensure that your investment pays the dividends you expect. It is important that you receive the best advice. It is important that you understand the benefits of one brand over another. When considering a stove there are several points to keep in mind:

Window Size

We all love the pleasure of sitting in front of a flickering fire and enjoying the company of friends in a warm and welcoming environment. Too many stove manufactures forget this when designing their stoves and they severely reduce the amount of fire that can be seen. Blacksmith Stoves pride themselves on providing large window areas for maximum visibility and ambiance.

Front Opening Size

Many manufactures restrict the opening size in the front of the stove. This has two effects – it reduces the size of the log you can use – that in turn means you have to refuel the stove on a more frequent basis. In comparison to similar sized stoves you will be pleased to know that Blacksmith Stoves have some of the biggest openings, ensuring ease of use and efficiency of burning.

Grate Life

How efficient and enduring is the grate in the stove? More and more people are choosing to burn smokeless fuel or are living in a smokeless zone. These fuels, such as anthracite burn at a much higher temperature than coal or wood and this can reduce the lifespan of the grate and internal castings. At Blacksmith Stoves all our internal castings are specifically designed and constructed to give long life in such high temperature conditions.

This is achieved through the inclusion of 16.8% chrome in their build. Testing at the Materials Institute of Bremen in Germany concludes that this optimises the potential of the grate and internal castings.
